A 16 MWt icebreaker to be laid down for FSUE “Rosmorport”

On Octover 17 a diesel icebreaker of project 21900М with power of about 16 MWt is to be laid down at JSC Vyborgsky Sudostroyitelny Zavod. The client is Federal Agency of Marine and River Transport (Rosmorrechflot), and the constructor is FSUE “Rosmorport”.

FSUE “Rosmorport” is going to use the icebreaker to provide icebreaking assistance to large-capacity vessels in ice conditions, towage of vessels and other floating constructions in ice, and in plain water, rendering assistance to vessels and conducting emergency and rescue operations in ice conditions, and in plain water, to act as a firefighting vessel to eliminate fires at floating and other constructions. The contract deadline for the icebreaker construction is 2015.

The 21900М icebreaker is the first in the series of three leading icebreakers with power of about 16 MWt, which are to be constructed at the expense of federal budget by the end of 2015.

Today FSUE “Rosmorport” disposes of the largest group of diesel icebreakers, which are used for assisting vessels in winter navigation in most Russian seaports.
