Specialized maritime session ends at the Artek children’s center

An FSUE “Rosmorport” specialized maritime session “The Sea – Romantics – Profession” completed at the Artek international children’s center on August 4, 2018. A total of 75 boys and girls undergoing training under a program of additional education left home by acquiring skills in the maritime activities.

For three weeks children from 15 Russian regions, winners of the all-Russian contest “My Port”, studied the fundamentals of maritime professions, the art of yachting and rowing.

The program of additional education “The Sea – Romantics – Profession” was built by the module principle. The first module was devoted to the fleet history and state shipbuilding. The second module was devoted to maritime professions. The third one was devoted to the ship’s construction. The fourth one was devoted to Russian major ports, their contribution to the economy of the state. The fifth module is devoted to acquiring first skills of yachting and rowing, as well as safety at sea.

Moreover, during the shift, the children attended a maritime visual aid room, a master class in maritime drawing, an interactive miniature museum “The Petrovskaya Water Area”, games and guessing games, as well as excursions to Yalta and Sevastopol aboard the Khersones sailing ship, have been organized to rehearse a parade timed to Russia’s Navy Day.

The shift was intensive and diversified. Many participants showed interest in maritime practice and expressed a wish to perfection their skills in the future.  

The thematic shift ended by a solemn closing ceremony that the traditional “Evening Before Leaving” had preceded. Children took with them branded equipment, prizes played during games, guessing games and sports competitions, as well as work-books developed by specialists of Admiral Makarov State University of Maritime and Inland Shipping in memory of the Artek center and the thematic shift “The Sea – Romantics – Profession”.

The socially oriented educational project “My Port” has existed since 2015. FSUE “Rosmorport” is an initiator of the project. The purpose of the project is to realize educational programs, which facilitate professional vocation of the participants in the project, patriotic education of the future generation and the strengthening of respect to the glorious past of Russia as the great maritime power.

The project has been developed by a group of experts in the sphere of additional education in the maritime activities and education in maritime traditions. It is aimed at making the profession of maritime and port affairs popular and supporting glorious Russian maritime traditions.

In 2018 the educational project “My Port” is implemented by the Maritime Federal Resource Center of Additional Education of Admiral Makarov State University of Maritime and Inland Shipping.
