“Mir" sailing ship preparing to enter the Tall Ships Races 2018 regatta

The “Mir” sailing ship in Sunderland completes its final preparations for participation in the regatta – the Tall Ships Races 2018. The Frigate arrived to the English seaport on July 11,2018.

All because of the largest international sailing race, which is going to start in Sunderland on July 14, the frigate of FSUE “Rosmorport” is waiting for dozens of sailing ships from other countries to arrive for the event.

The whole week before the starts, the city hosts fairs and musical concerts, performances and sporting events for guests and residents of Sunderland. The young participants can enjoy amusement rides. A Parade of crew members of the participating boats passed along the main streets of the city on July 11.

The “Mir” Frigate welcomes all visitors for a tour on board during all days of stay in the port. Currently, 132 cadets from the maritime educational facilities are undergoing a course of training practice on board the Russian vessel. During their stay in the town, the cadets had already been able to compete at agility and strength against the crew members from other boats. “Mir” cadets team had no equals, and easily won in tug-of-war game and handball competition. There were also tennis games and cricket.

This race will be a great opportunity for the cadets to learn how to professionally handle the sails and to work in a team. Every frigate journey is special. Each trip tests the endurance and spirit of the crew members, while helping to gain more experience.

On Saturday, before lining up on the starting grid, all of the participants will parade along the Sunderland shoreline, saying their farewells to the hospitable city and its inhabitants. The first stage of the Race will end in Esbjerg (Denmark).
