FSUE “Rosmorport” General Director Visits North-Western Basin Branch Kaliningrad Directorate

On August 17, 2017 FSUE “Rosmorport” General Director Andrey Tarasenko made a working visit to the FSUE “Rosmorport” North-Western Basin Branch Kaliningrad Directorate.

During the visit, Andrey Tarasenko held a working meeting with the management and employees of the Branch on the construction of an international passenger terminal in the town of Pionersky.

Let us recall that the day before at a meeting devoted to the development of the transport infrastructure of the North-Western Region Russian President Vladimir Putin gave a series of instructions on the implementation of that project and paid attention to its importance to ensure transport accessibility in Kaliningrad. The president said, the construction of the terminal would create new possibilities for the development of the region's tourism potential.

In his turn, Russian Transport Minister Maxim Sokolov said the systematic expansion of seaports' facilities yielded tangible results and the amount of transshipment grew every year. However, due to the tasks set to redirect Russian cargo turnover from ports of adjacent states to Russian ports the need for additional facilities still remains operative.

The international sea terminal in the Kaliningrad region is one of the largest infrastructural projects of the North-Western Federal District. The project is executed by FSUE “Rosmorport” within the Federal Target Program “The Development of Russia's Transport System (2010-2020)”. Under the project, it is planned to build berths for receiving cruise vessels with maximum passenger flow through the sea terminal in the amount of 25,000 people per year and maximum cargo turnover in the amount of up to 80,000 pieces of ro-ro machinery that will facilitate the dynamic development of the Kaliningrad region in the field of sea ferry and cruise carriages.

During the trip, Andrey Tarasenko and the management of the North-Western Basin Branch and the FSUE “Rosmorport” Kaliningrad Directorate also discussed measures to implement the business plan for the first six months of 2017.

In addition, the FSUE “Rosmorport” director-general had several working meetings with representatives of investment companies, the Stevedoring Companies Association of Kaliningrad Port. The meeting focused on prospects for the development of the seaport of Kaliningrad, the activities of the pilotage service, dredging operations and the reconstruction of the Kaliningrad Sea Canal.
