Mir Sailing Ship Visits Tallinn

On July 17, 2017 the Mir training sailing ship arrived in the port of Tallinn (Estonia) as part of The Tall Ship Races.

During the stay, an open board has been organized on the ship. Excursions providing an opportunity to get acquainted with the ship’s construction and the style of life on the ship are organized for all comers.

WWII veterans who live in Tallinn became honorable guests aboard the ship. Rear Admiral Ivan Merkulov addressed the crew members. He told the cadets about the heroic events of the Tallinn Offensive in August 1941, one of the major sea operations to evacuate the Baltic Fleet to Kronstadt from Tallinn.

Cadets of Admiral Makarov State University of Maritime and Inland Shipping and St Petersburg City Palace of Youth Creativity who are undergoing training on the ship went sightseeing and attended the oldest church in Tallinn – the Dom Cathedral. Cadets paid their respect to the great Russian circumnavigator Ivan Kruzenshtern buried in the cathedral.

On July 18 the sailing ship will continue its voyage and set course for the Finnish port of Turku.
