Start of Pilotage of the FRM-2 Floating Residential Module Platform Topside at the Volgo-Caspian Marine Shipping Canal

On June, 27 2017, the move of tug and tow caravan from the Seaport of Astrakhan towards the V. Filanovsky Field began. Five auxiliary vessels and a complex of the topside floating residential module platform (FRM-2), which is placed on the transport and installation barge "Yurii Kuvykin", will cover a distance of about 230 km. Most of the route will pass through the Volgo-Caspian Marine Shipping Canal.

Then the floating residential module platform will be installed upon the support blocks at the V. Filanovsky Field in the Caspian sea.

Pilotage of the towing train is carried out by the pilots of the Astrakhan branch of FSUE "Rosmorport" in cooperation with the operators of the VTS of the sea ports of Astrakhan and Olya.

Navigational and hydrographic support of the tug caravan pilotage is conducted by the following vessels of the enterprise: Lev Tretyakov mark boat, Petr Bakanev surveying boat and Agat auxiliary vessel.

The estimated time of passing Volgo-Caspian Marine Shipping Canal by the tug and tow caravan is two days.

The V. Filanovsky Field is the largest of the deposits discovered in Russia over the last 25 years. It is located in the Northern part of the Caspian sea, at a distance of 220 km from Astrakhan. The sea depth at the site is from 7 m to 11 m. The recoverable reserves of petrol are of 128 million tons, and those of natural and associated gas amount to more than 41 billion cubic meters.
