Mir Sailing Ship Takes Part in Celebrations Marking Independence Day in Norway

The Mir sailing ship took part in the celebrations marking Independence Day in the Kingdom of Norway in Larvik on May 17, 2017.

Cadets, undergoing navigational training practice on the sailing ship, participated in the citywide celebratory parade. The captain and the crew of the ship paid homage to deceased sailors and laid wreaths to the Piramida monument devoted to the dead in World War II.

The day before representatives of the Russian Embassy in Norway visited the Mir sailing ship.

At present, a total of 131 cadets of Admiral Makarov State University of Maritime and Inland Shipping and Voronin Arctic Maritime Institute are aboard the ship.

During the training practice, cadets will master skills in maritime navigation, operation of ship power plants and shipboard electrical equipment and automation equipment. In addition, the cadets will study rigging.

The ship's mooring in Larvik will last till May 18. Then the Mir will leave for Bremerhaven (Germany). The ship is planning to arrive in Bremenhaven on May 24.
