End of Icebreaker Festival 2016 in Saint-Petersburg

The third icebreaker festival  was held in St. Petersburg on 2 and 3 of May. Within two days the residents and guests were able to visit the operating icebreakers of  FSUE “Rosmorport”: Sankt-Peterburg, Kapitan Sorokin, Mudyug and Ivan Kruzenshtern and also Nevskaya Zastava ice class tugboat and the icebreaker Krasin museum.  The vessels were moored at the English Embankment and  Lieutenant Schmidt Embankment.

The Petersburgers and guests of the city visited the cabins and the engine room, met the crews of the icebreakers, and also took part in the events organized on the beach. On the embankments of the Neva river street exhibitions, tents with interactive exhibitions and presentations from the industry-specific museums and organizations, workshops and film screenings were held. As a part of the festival there was organized as a lecture hall, where one could hear fascinating stories about the research and development of the Arctic. In addition, the outdoor cinema showed documentaries and feature films about icebreakers.

The festival ended on May 3 with a grand show: accompanied by music icebreaking tugs performed “sea waltz”. Leaving the waters of the Big Neva, the breakers said goodbye to the city with a long whistle.
