Training Practice on Icebreaker Comes to the End

The first training practice on the icebreaker in the Russian history was completed on March 18, 2016 in the seaport of Kandalaksha. Cadets of Siberian State University of Water Transport spent 3 months on board of Kapitan Dranitsyn vessel, included in the FSUE “Rosmorport” icebreaker fleet.

During the practice that started on January 16 in Saint Petersburg, 40 cadets were studying the configuration of the electromechanical part of the icebreaker and conducted repairs on the vessel. In addition, the trainees got an opportunity to participate in organization and conduct of icebreaker operations. The cadets spent at sea 47 out of 63 days of the practical training, having covered over 3500 nautical miles.

According to the training program results, all cadets have earned sailing qualifications required to obtain the Certificate of Competency, allowing to qualify for the command post on board of the vessel after graduation. The experience will contribute to the strengthening and development of practical skills related to their future professional activity.
