Second shift of sailing practice starts onboard the Nadezhda saiboat
111 cadets of the Maritime State University named after admiral G.I. Nevelskoy have started their sailing practice onboard the sailing training vessel Nadezhda, which left Vladivostok for the open sea on June 25. The second shift at the “school under sails” will last until August 21.
Within two months, the frigate will make six voyages, calling at the seaports of Korsakov, Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky and Vladivostok, bypassing the Commander and Shantar Islands.
During this time, future sailors and shipbuilders guided by three mentors will test their theoretical knowledge in practice. They will learn to determine the ship's location by navigational landmarks, master ship mechanisms and devices, work on deck and in the engine room, as well as participate in sailing and rigging operations.
This year the first shift on the Nadezhda sailboat was held from April 21 to June 22. The sailing training vessel took on board 60 cadets. On May 14, at berth No. 30 of the seaport of Vladivostok, they took part in the solemn laying of flowers at the memorial sign in honor of the sailors killed in the Battle of Tsushima on May 27, 1905.
At the event, the cadets were given a wreath to be launched at the site of the battle in memory of the fallen heroes. The ceremony took place on May 18 near Tsushima Island when the Nadezhda sailboat was crossing the Tsushima Strait into the East China Sea.
In total, about 260 cadets of the Maritime State University named after admiral G.I. Nevelskoy and its branches will undergo sailing practice on the Nadezhda frigate in 2025. The third shift is scheduled to take place from August 22 to October 21.
