The icebreakers Kapitan Nikolayev, Mudyug and Kapitan Plakhin of FSUE “Rosmorport” took part in the Icebreaker Festival, a large city holiday held annually on the Leitenant Schmidt Embankment in St. Petersburg after the end of the ice navigation period in the Baltic basin.

This year the festival was held from May 1 to 4 and was dedicated to the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War. About 80 thousand guests visited the event over four days.

The icebreakers solemnly arrived at the festival venue to the sounds of a brass band. On the opening day of the holiday, media representatives visited the vessels. Alexander Strelnikov, Director of the FSUE “Rosmorport” North-Western Basin Branch, took part in the press scrum aboard the icebreaker Mudyug.

Another press scrum was held on May 3 with the participation of Boris Piotrovsky, Vice Governor of St. Petersburg, who also visited the icebreaker Mudyug and watched from its board the tugs waltz – a spectacular performance on the Neva River, during which ships synchronously spin in a dance to music, releasing jets of water.

From May 2 to 4, the icebreakers were open for public. During the excursions more than 18 thousand visitors climbed on the decks and learned about the design and characteristics of the vessels, as well as their work to provide icebreaker assistance in winter. Special excursions were organized for delegations with children from the Kursk Region.

During the festival, an informative and entertaining program for adults and children was held on the embankment. Festive events also took place on board the Krasin museum icebreaker. The marquee of FSUE “Rosmorport” was popular among the visitors who could get information about the activities of the enterprise, the owner of the world's largest icebreaker fleet, take part in contests and quizzes and get souvenir products with the brand mark of the enterprise, as well as participate in the drawing of prefabricated models of the flagship of the FSUE “Rosmorport” fleet – the icebreaker Viktor Chernomyrdin.

The festival featuring the FSUE “Rosmorport” icebreakers has been held since 2014. The event is organized by the Committee for Tourism Development with the participation of the Maritime Council under the Government of St. Petersburg to develop domestic tourism, popularize cultural family recreation and acquaint the population with maritime professions.
