Sailing practice for cadets on the Nadezhda sailboat starts

On April 22 the sailing training vessel Nadezhda took on board 60 cadets of the Naval Engineering College of MSU named after admiral G.I. Nevelskoy and the Amur Branch of MSU named after admiral G.I. Nevelskoy, studying ship navigation. Cadets will be accompanied by a practice supervisor throughout their training.

During the two-month sailing practice the sailboat is planned to make six voyages with calls at the seaports of Vladivostok, Korsakov and Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.

In the course of training the cadets will have an opportunity to practice the acquired theoretical knowledge: they will determine the place of the vessel by navigational landmarks, master ship mechanisms and devices, work on deck and in the engine room, as well as take part in sailing and rigging work.

In total, this year the sailing training vessel will receive three shifts of students of MSU named after admiral G.I. Nevelskoy and its subdivisions. Sailing practice will continue through the end of October.

For reference:

The sailing training vessel Nadezhda was built in 1991. The sailboat was named after the legendary frigate, on board of which 200 years ago Russian sailors under the command of Ivan Krusenstern made the first circumnavigation of the globe in the history of the Russian fleet, delivered the first Russian embassy to Japan, conducted research of Sakhalin and the Kuril Islands.

The vessel was initially operated by MSU named after admiral G.I. Nevelskoy, and in November 2014 it was transferred to the operational management of FSUE “Rosmorport”.
