FSUE "Rosmorport" started dredging works at the VCSSC

FSUE "Rosmorport" started annual repair dredging works on the Volga-Caspian Sea Shipping Canal (VCSSC).

The new high-capacity non-self-propelled cutter-suction dredger "Nikolay Rusanov" carries out dredging on the canal within the framework of measures to prevent deterioration of navigation conditions at the VCSSC and to maintain a through draft of 4.5 m in 2025.

The "Nikolay Rusanov" dredger joined the company's fleet in 2024 and in the same year started work on the canal. The vessel is equipped with a ground pump with a water capacity of more than 7,000 cub. m/h and a Russian-made automated dredging control system.

In the navigation season of 2025 it is planned to use three more non-self-propelled pipeline dredgers of the enterprise: "Artemiy Volynsky", "Pyotr Sablin" and "Severo-Dvinsky-701", as well as four dredgers of contractors.

The preliminary dredging volume for the current year is 7 million cub. m and will be adjusted based on the results of depth measurements. Financing of dredging works is carried out at the expense of own funds of FSUE "Rosmorport".

In order to strengthen the grouping of its own dredging fleet, two more vessels of similar characteristics and three support vessels are being built at VCSSC by order of FSUE "Rosmorport".

Taking into account the negative trends in the Caspian Sea level drop observed over the last decade, as well as the presence of limiting depths outside the VCSSC in the sea, currently FSUE "Rosmorport" is implementing a project for the construction of protective structures (the body of the structures has been constructed), and work is continuing on the development of the discharge canal. Additional engineering and technical measures are also being developed to increase the stability of the VCSSC in its design dimensions to the effects of shoaling and wind-induced surges.
