The navigation practice for the first shift of cadets this year on the Mir sailing training vessel, which lasted from May 7 to July 10, has ended. On July 11, the sailboat took on board a new shift of trainees – 120 students of the Admiral Makarov State University of Maritime and Inland Shipping (SUMIS) and the College of SUMIS.

119 cadets of the Admiral Makarov State University of Maritime and Inland Shipping, the College of SUMIS and the Voronin Arctic Maritime Institute underwent the practical training during the first stage. The practice was organized in the Baltic Sea.

For two months, the cadets studied the structure of the sailboat and vessel's mechanisms, the basics of watchkeeping, learned to locate the vessel by navigational landmarks, worked on deck and in the engine room, and also took part in the preparation and installation of sails, in rigging work on the vessel.

The practice of cadets of the second shift will last until September 11, 2024 and will also take place in the Baltic Sea. In the coming days, the sailboat is scheduled to set out on its first training voyage during the shift.
