The Mir sailboat becomes a participant of the maritime festival “Sails of the World” in Kaliningrad
The Mir sailing training vessel, the fastest frigate on the planet, took part in the first Russian maritime festival “Sails of the World”, which took place on June 15-16 on the territory of the Kaliningrad Sea Fishing Port.
The main event of the festival, organized by ANO “Sails of the World”, was the opportunity to see the legendary three-masted sailboat. For two days residents and guests of Kaliningrad could come on the main deck of the Mir STV for free, get acquainted with the structure of the sailing vessel and talk to its crew and cadets who are undergoing practice on a sailboat. The visitors were greeted by the captain of the sailing training vessel Andrey Orlov. In addition to the Mir STV, another famous sailing vessel - the Sedov barque was moored in the center of Kaliningrad, which was also open for the public.
The organizers have prepared a rich program of sport and entertainment event. The following events took place on the Baltic Sea during the festival: a sailing regatta for the Mir Sailing Ship Cup, a maritime sports day, and the first-ever Port Trail athletics race at distance of 9 kilometres, as well as 800 m sprint and 200 m children's race. As part of the festival, one could also attend concerts of famous musicians and take part in the creation of Russia's largest port graffiti.
About 6,000 people participated in the maritime festival over the weekend. They were able to board the Mir and Sedov sailboats and attend events on shore. It is planned that in the future such a festival will become an annual tradition.
The event ended with the performance of the orchestra of the Baltic Higher Naval Institute named after Admiral F.F. Ushakov and the solemn set out of the Mir sailing training vessel into the Baltic Sea to the sounds of ship signals.
