New coastal station of the automatic identification system put into operation in Chukotka

In order to ensure monitoring of navigation in the Bering Strait, FSUE “Rosmorport” launched a new coastal station of the automatic identification system (AIS) located in the village of Lavrentiya, Chukotka Autonomous District.

The AIS coastal station includes a base station with a built-in GPS receiver and VHF transceiver antennas. The operational range of the coastal station is 32 nautical miles.

The coastal station was made in accordance with the design documentation developed by the FSUE “Rosmorport” Far Eastern Basin Branch project team.

The assembled Russian equipment meets all the requirements for AIS coastal stations approved by the Ministry of Transport of Russia.

The new coastal station is the easternmost element of the Maritime Safety System (MSS) in the Russian Federation. The FSUE “Rosmorport” program of activities provides for the further implementation of projects for the development of the MSS in the Far East in the coming years.
