FSUE "Rosmorport" discussed issues of dredging on the Volga-Caspian Sea Shipping Canal with Iranian companies

On June 21, the delegation of FSUE "Rosmorport" headed by General Director Sergey Pylin held a working meeting with representatives of Iranian dredging companies in Moscow regarding carrying out works on the development of the Volga-Caspian Sea Shipping Canal (VCSSC).

The Iranian side has expressed interest in carring out dredging works on the canal within the framework of the development of the North-South international transport corridor. In particular, the participants of the meeting discussed on the possibility of involving high-performing Iranian dredgers for dredging at offshore sites.

As a result of the working meeting, the parties expressed their intention to continue negotiations on possibility of involving Iranian dredging vessels to strengthen the group of dredgers at the VCSSC.

The task of ensuring the passage of vessels with a draught of at least 4.5 m to the VCSSC by the end of 2023 was set by the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin.

FGUP Rosmorport is carrying out comprehensive measures for the development of the VCSSC - repair dredging, as well as implementing the project for the construction of protective structures for the canal. At the moment 15 dredgers are operating on the VCSSC. FSUE "Rosmorport" plans to continue increasing the number of vessels involved in dredging on the canal.
