FSUE “Rosmorport” participates in the Ports of the Arctic forum

FSUE “Rosmorport” took part in the 3rd business forum Ports of the Arctic, which was held in Arkhangelsk on April 21-22, 2022.

Kirill Gaida, Deputy General Director for Navigation Safety, represented FSUE “Rosmorport” during the panel discussion “Problems of maritime cargo transportation in the Arctic”.

The issues of transformation of logistic chains, Russian Arctic commercial fleet, as well as port infrastructure issues and obstacles to increasing navigation in the Russian Arctic were discussed during the event together with Northern Shipping Company (JSC NSC, Arkhangelsk), Eco Shipping LLC and Polar Trans LLC.

The cargo turnover in the seaports of the Arctic basin amounted to 94.3 million tons in 2021. The largest seaports in terms of cargo turnover are Murmansk, Sabetta, Varandey and Arkhangelsk.

FSUE “Rosmorport” operates in all the seaports listed above. The enterprise carries out activities to implement the objects in the Arctic zone, included in the Comprehensive plan for the modernization and expansion of the mainline infrastructure for the period up to 2024, as well as in the Plan for the development of infrastructure of the Northern Sea Route for the period up to 2035.

The enterprise's fleet currently includes 36 icebreakers and icebreaking tugs of various classes and capacities. As the owner of the world's largest icebreaker fleet, FSUE “Rosmorport” annually provides thousands of escorts in the country's freezing seaports. In agreement with Rosmorrechflot, the icebreakers of FSUE “Rosmorport” participate on a contractual basis in providing icebreaking assistance for vessels in the waters of the Northern Sea Route.
