Russian Icebreaker Fleet Replenishment

On December 25, 2015 on the territory of the Vyborg Shipyard the official ceremony of hoisting the Russian Federation national flag on the icebreaker Murmansk and the signing of the vessel acceptance and transfer certificate by FSUE “Rosmorport” and JSC United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC) were held.

 

The participants were Rosmorrechflot deputy head Yury Kostin, General Director of FSUE “Rosmorport” Andrey Tarasenko, General Director of the PJSC Vyborg Shipyard Alexander Solovyov, as well as the head of the municipality “The city of Vyborg” Alexander Lysov.

 

This event is of great importance to the whole country and especially to its Arctic regions. The new diesel-powered icebreaker is to be in the North-Western Basin Branch of FSUE “Rosmorport”. The icebreaker fleet replenishment is one of the priorities for ensuring the year-round availability of the freezing seaports of the Russian Federation, as well as for ensuring the safety of navigation, high level of cargo operations and environmental safety.

 

Murmansk is a unique vessel with a capacity of 17.4 MW of propulsion system, built with advanced technology and able to break ice up to 1.5 m thick.

 

Its main purpose is autonomous convoying of large vessels, towing, assistance to ships and payloads transportation.
