During his business trip to Saint-Petersburg from 29 to 31 July 2015 Deputy General Director of FSUE "Rosmorport" for fleet has held a series of meetings with representatives from shipyards on construction process, mooring, preparation to trials and terms of delivery of icebreakers with capacities 16 MW and 25 MW.

On 29 July a meeting with representatives from Joint Shipyards Corporation and administration of Baltic shipyard, at which construction of linear diesel icebreaker with capacity of 25 MW is being carried out, took place. Acceptance of the vessels is planned to be in 2017.

The next day there was a meeting with representatives from Joint Shipyards Corporation and administration of Vyborg shipyard, that is performing construction of 3 icebreakers under 21900M project. In accordance with subprogram “Marine Transport” of the federal target program “Transport system of Russia development (2010 – 2020) the icebreakers are planned to be delivered in 2015 – 2016.

Start-up program at Vladivostok and Murmansk icebreakers has begun already and will be followed by sea and icebreaking trials. Construction of the third icebreaker 21900M project – Novorossiysk – is in full blast and is to be finished in 2016.

The vessels of the project are able to go through ice with 1.5 m width. Their main purpose is pilotage of large-capacity vessels, towage and transportation of payloads. The new icebreakers are intended to be used by the North-Western Basin Branch of FSUE “Rosmorport”. Their construction and setting into operation will solve one of the topical problems – reduction of average age of the icebreaking fleet.

Refilling of the icebreaking fleet with new up-to-date vessels is one of the prior goals in provision of all year round access to the freezing seaport of Russia.
