Press-Conference on the Results of Research Trip of Training ship “Professor Khlyustin”

On 27 October 2014 a press-conference on the results of the expedition arranged by the State Institute of Oceanography in the framework of the Russian Geographical Society project on studying long-term effects of the accident at “Fukusima-1” APP took place on board of “Professor Khlyustin” training ship.

Sergey Ogay, the Head of Admiral Nevelskoy Maritime State University, opened the press-conference by acknowledging the participants and organizers of the expedition for the successfully accomplished trip that gave the cadets the unique opportunity to combine practice in navigation with improvement of scientific skills in radiation safety.

The commander of the expedition Chief Specialist of the State Institute of Oceanography U.S. Lukyanov informed the participants that all the goals set by the Russian Geographical Society were successfully accomplished. All necessary research was carried out and water and air samples which will be used during the further laboratory analysis were taken.

Senior leader of the practice V.F.Ryzhkova told the audience about the rich educational work done during the training. It was the first time that the cadets who had their training on board listened to a series of lectures about radiation safety. Apart from the lectures the cadets took part in routine procedures of water and air samples taking done by the scientists and specialists. Practical training was finished by a seminar during which the cadets guided by scientists and teachers made reports on issues of navigation safety and security research, Arctic ecosystem preservation, Northern Sea Route prospects, Arctic resource base, analysis of statutory and legal acts of the Russian Federation on radiation safety, types and sources of radiation, methods of radiological research.

Deputy Director for economics and finance of the Far-Eastern Basin Branch of FSUE “Rosmorport” Pavel Ostrovsky taking part in the press-conference mentioned that it was the Far-Eastern Basin Branch first experience in such kind of events after the “Professor Khlyustin” training ship was assigned to FSUE “Rosmorport”. Pavel Ostrovsky also assured his colleagues and general public that successfully started collaboration of FSUE “Rosmorport” and Admiral Nevelskoy MSU in organization and realization of navigation practices of the Maritime University cadets on “Professor Khlyustin” training ship board will take place in future, too.
