Icebreaker assistances in the Greater Port Saint Petersburg to be convoy-oriented

According to helicopter ice patrol, an icebreaker assistance in the Greater Port Saint Petersburg was decided to be implemented in convoys.

During last 24 hours twelve FSUE “Rosmorport” icebreakers executed about 60 assistances. Particularly, as of the 16th of February morning, 42 vessels are on the route to head for the Rodsher Island, 24 vessels have been guided to the entrance buoy. At the same time about 30 vessels with ice class and main engine capacity forbidden for navigation by the seaport’s administration are still in the assistance waiting areas.

February 2011 witnesses complex ice situation in the Baltic Sea Gulf of Finland. Owing to a thaw and a strong wind, ice hummocking up to 1m and compression rate of 3 degrees was formed. The situation remains complex.
