The Ro-Ro berth in the seaport of Makhachkala opens after renovation

The berth of the automobile and ferry crossing in the Dry Cargo Harbor of the seaport of Makhachkala has been put into operation. Under the order of FSUE “Rosmorport”, the contractor completed a major overhaul of the hydraulic engineering structure, originally constructed in 1957.

As a result, reinforced concrete and metal structural elements of the berth were renovated, 29 modern fender systems were installed, and 4 mooring dolphins were replaced. The previous reconstruction took place in 2000.

The design and dimensions of the port’s only Ro-Ro berth remain unchanged after the renovation. It has a length of 174 meters, a width of 15.85 meters, a design depth of 5.8 meters and a navigational depth of 5.3 meters.

The berth is a moored steel sheet pile bulkhead with a high monolithic coping and a reinforced concrete superstructure. It is equipped with an inclined ramp platform for the handling of roll trailers transporting wheeled equipment.

The berth has an annual throughput capacity of 0.2 million tons and is intended for Ro-Ro ferries with a draft up to 5.66 meters, such as the Kompozitor Kara Karaev type. Additionally, conventional cargo vessels can berth here for handling general and bulk cargo. The renovated berth is currently receiving dry bulk cargo vessels, including shipments from Iran.

Earlier, in the port basin, FSUE “Rosmorport” dredgers completed their seasonal dredging plan. A total of 230,000 cubic meters of sediment was removed, enabling the port to accommodate vessels with a deadweight of up to 5,000 tons at full load.
