The third shift of the sailing practice starts on the Nadezhda sailboat

On August 23, 76 cadets from the Maritime State University named after admiral G.I. Nevelskoy commenced their sailing practice aboard the training sailing vessel Nadezhda. They will navigate a route past Sakhalin, Kamchatka, and the Commander Islands, spending nearly two months on board. The departure from the seaport of Vladivostok is scheduled for September 9.

Under the guidance of three mentors and the frigate's crew, the aspiring sailors will take turns on watch, fulfilling the duties of lookouts, helmsmen, and engineers, while also learning to hoist and lower the sails. Additionally, the cadets will participate in workshops to familiarize themselves with the workings of the ship’s mechanisms and devices.

“I have dreamed of becoming a sailor since childhood and have always admired the sailing vessel Nadezhda whenever it docked at our port. I can hardly believe that I am finally on board this renowned ship. Ahead of my classmates and me lies the open sea and a unique experience that can only be gained on a sailing frigate,” shared first-year cadet Matvey Avdeev from the ship mechanics university department, expressing his expectations for the practice.

The nearest event featuring the Nadezhda will be the Eastern Economic Forum, which will take place in Vladivostok from September 3 to 6. The vessel will participate in the traditional Parade of Sail and will host guests from the main business platform of the Far East. Following this event, the frigate will leave its port of registration and head towards Korsakov. The vessel is planned to be back on October 19.

The second shift of sailing practice aboard the Nadezhda took place from June 23 to August 22, accommodating 111 cadets from the Maritime State University named after admiral G.I. Nevelskoy. During this time, the ship covered over 5,000 nautical miles, visiting the seaports of Korsakov, Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, and Vladivostok and leaving behind the Commander and Shantar Islands.

In the seaport of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, the sailing vessel welcomed guests for the Open Deck Festival on July 12-13. Around 5,000 residents and visitors to the capital of Kamchatka, including the Governor of Kamchatka Region Vladimir Solodov, visited the vessel.

Furthermore, the crew and cadets paid tribute to the First Kamchatka Expedition of Vitus Bering, marking its 300th anniversary this year. On July 17, they participated in a rally at the navigator’s monument in the village of Nikolskoye on Bering Island, which is part of the Commander archipelago.

The following day, a wreath-laying ceremony was held in Commander Bay in honor of Vitus Bering, who perished on the island during the Second Kamchatka Expedition in 1741.

Additionally, cadets from maritime universities across the country are currently undergoing training on other sailing vessels of FSUE “Rosmorport” – the training sailing vessels Mir and Khersones. On August 22, on the Day of the State Flag of the Russian Federation, ceremonial parades and flag-raising ceremonies took place on the sailing vessels.
