Management of FSUE “Rosmorport” discusses key areas of port infrastructure development in the Magadan Region with local representatives
The delegation of FSUE “Rosmorport” headed by General Director Sergey Pylin, which also included Deputy General Director for Capital Construction Vladimir Abornev, Deputy General Director Sergey Bazarniy, Director of the North-Eastern Basin Branch Elena Bulanova and Deputy Director of the North-Eastern Basin Branch – Head of the Magadan Directorate Vadim Kozin, made a working visit to the Magadan Region. The purpose of the visit was to discuss the enterprise's participation in the strategic development of the region's port infrastructure with representatives of local authorities and transportation companies.
In the coming years, Magadan will undergo a significant transformation: it is planned to create a new “sea façade” of the city by implementing major projects aimed at increasing the economic potential and tourist attractiveness of the region.
For example, the industrial park “Magadan Fish Port” will be built in Nagayev Bay by the end of 2030 on the area of the Magadan Sea Fishing Port, which has almost ceased to operate. The total cargo turnover of the facility will be about 1 million tons per year. The delegation of FSUE “Rosmorport” together with Andrey Tabolin, Head of the Fisheries Department of Magadan Region, inspected the future site of the industrial park, discussing cooperation in tugboat support, pilotage and icebreaker support, as well as details of the project investment declaration sent to Rosmorrechflot.
A yacht marina is planned to be built in Nagaev Bay, which will attract pleasure and fishing boats to the harbor. The facilities of FSUE “Rosmorport” had been transferred to the ownership of Magadan Region for these purposes. As part of the working visit, a meeting was held with Vitaly Danilov, Director for Hydraulic Engineering Construction of GK EKS JSC. Currently, construction and installation works are underway at the facility.
During the visit of the FSUE “Rosmorport” management to the region, a meeting was held with Andrey Gorbov, General Director of “Magadansky Morskoy Torgoviy Port” PJSC (MMTP). The parties discussed the prospects of port development and leasing issues, in particular, the possibility of equipping leased facilities with storm water drainage. MMTP currently leases berths No. 2-7 and a special pier located in Staraya Veselaya Bay.
Sergey Pylin and Andrey Gorbov inspected berth No. 5 in the seaport of Magadan, the overhaul of which was completed by MMTP last September. After commissioning, the berth's cargo turnover may reach 750,000 tons, or 50,800 containers per year. The renewed berth operates around the clock and year-round, significantly increasing the port's throughput capacity.
In addition, a meeting was held with Yuri Bodiaev, Advisor to the Governor of Magadan Region, where the issues of interaction between the enterprise and the region in the context of maritime activities were raised and the attraction of cargo base necessary for the development of the seaport of Magadan was discussed.
An important part of the visit was related to ensuring safe navigation in Nagaev Bay. During the meeting Vassily Menshikh, Acting Captain of Magadan Seaport, emphasized the high quality of pilotage performed by FSUE “Rosmorport” (four specialists work in the seaport of Magadan) and icebreaker services.
For almost 20 years, since 2004, uninterrupted navigation in the seaport in winter was provided by the icebreaker Magadan, which was replaced by the more powerful and modern icebreaker Moskva starting from 2022. During the icebreaker assistance period in 2024-2025, which ended in May, the number of vessels conducted to and from the seaport of Magadan amounted to 118 units.
Vassily Menshikh noted that this year, together with FSUE “Rosmorport” pilots and the captain of the icebreaker Moskva, a new strategy for mooring vessels has been developed, aimed at optimizing logistics and minimizing risks when performing complex operations.
A separate meeting was organized with representatives of FSUE “Rosmorport” subdivisions that ensure navigation safety in the Magadan Directorate of the North-Eastern Basin Branch: vessel traffic control services, technical observation of the water area, GMDSS sector.
Using Magadan VTS, vessels calling at the seaport are provided with comprehensive navigation services: information is transmitted onboard, radar control is performed, and assistance in navigation is provided. The number of ship calls under the control of VTS Magadan for four months of 2025 has amounted to more than 430, in 2024 it was more than 1,650.
