General Director of FSUE “Rosmorport” participates in a meeting on the development of the Transarctic Transport Corridor

Sergey Pylin, General Director of FSUE “Rosmorport”, took part in a meeting on the development of port infrastructure to ensure the functioning of the Transarctic Transport Corridor. The event was chaired by Nikolai Patrushev, Adviser of the President of Russia. The meeting was also attended by Alexey Chekunkov, Minister of the Russian Federation for the Development of the Far East and the Arctic, Andrey Tarasenko, Head of Rosmorrechflot, and Alexander Tsybulsky, Governor of the Arkhangelsk Region.

The meeting participants noted the need to develop seaports in the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation to effectively use the potential of the Transarctic Transport Corridor regarding the projected increase in cargo transportation and transshipment.

Today 15 seaports operate in the Arctic basin, including 6 seaports in the waters of the Northern Sea Route (Sabetta, Dikson, Dudinka, Khatanga, Tiksi, Pevek). As of the beginning of 2025, the capacity of the seaports in the Arctic basin is more than 150 million tons, with the capacity of the ports located in the waters of the Northern Sea Route being more than 48 million tons.

The Head of Rosmorrechflot presented the main projects of modernization and construction of port infrastructure being implemented as part of the Transarctic Transport Corridor formation and stressed the importance of integration of seaports with other modes of transport - road, rail and inland waterways.

The report on the development of marine cruise tourism in the Arctic region was made by General Director General of FSUE “Rosmorport”.

“Taking into account the growing interest of our citizens in domestic tourism, including in the direction of the Murmansk region, we are considering the possibility of organizing cruise voyages on the basis of the existing sea station and using the world's most powerful non-nuclear icebreaker Viktor Chernomyrdin, operated by FSUE “Rosmorport,” Sergey Pylin said.

The icebreaker is planned to be used as a cruise vessel in summer months, during the period free from icebreaking tasks in freezing ports and seas of the Russian Federation. The vessel is equipped to the most modern standards and can comfortably accommodate up to 90 passengers.

FSUE “Rosmorport” is working out a route along the coast of the Kola Peninsula with a visit to Teriberka village and Sredny and Rybachy peninsulas, popular among tourists in recent years, as well as the archipelagos of Novaya Zemlya and Franz Josef Land, which are part of the Russian Arctic National Park.

Besides, the Murmansk - Barentsburg, Spitsbergen line can be a promising direction for the development of marine cruise routes in the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation. In parallel with the sea cruise, cargo delivery to the settlements of Barentsburg, Pyramida and Grumant can be carried out.

The enterprise intends to continue working on the issues of organizing cruise traffic in the Arctic region as part of the development of the Transarctic Transport Corridor.

At the same time, FSUE “Rosmorport” is considering the prospects of cruise tourism development in the Far East region, working on a route from Vladivostok to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky in order to increase the tourist attractiveness and accessibility of Sakhalin Island, the Kuril Islands and the Kamchatka Territory.
