International sea terminal in Pionersky receives first ferry from St. Petersburg

The cargo and passenger ferry Antey, which went on its first voyage from the Passenger Port of Saint Petersburg, arrived at the seaport of Kaliningrad on January 18 at the international sea terminal in the Pionersky area of the Kaliningrad Region. The ferry transported passengers and 17 units of ro-ro cargo.

Since May 2024, the ferry has been operating on the seaport of Ust-Luga – seaport of Kaliningrad ferry line. Departure port change will simplify logistics, primarily to make transportation more accessible for owners of personal vehicles and passengers traveling without a car.

The ferry will depart from the seaport of Kaliningrad tomorrow, January 19. According to preliminary data, it will carry 10 passengers and 32 vehicles, including 26 trailers, 2 trucks and 4 passenger cars. The next cruise from St. Petersburg is scheduled for January 23, 2025.

It is planned that in the future, ferry cruise departing from St. Petersburg and arriving in Pionersky, as well as return cruise, will be operated on a regular basis once a week.

The Antey universal double-deck ferry of the Ro-Pax type is capable of transporting Ro-Ro and passengers. Up to 94 truck trains can be accommodated on both decks. The vessel has 59 cabins for 149 passengers. The deadweight of the ferry is 7,811 MT.

Simultaneously with the arrival of the Antey ferry to Pionersky, loading and unloading operations were carried out at the Baltiysk railway ferry complex in the Kaliningrad Region on the Marshal Rokossovsky automobile and railway ferry operating on the seaport of Ust-Luga – seaport of Kaliningrad ferry line. Thus, now the Kaliningrad Region's port infrastructure can accommodate two large-tonnage ferries in parallel.

The commissioning of the first start-up complex of the international sea terminal in Pionersky in August 2024 significantly increased the ferry's carrying capacity. After completion of construction and commissioning of the terminal facilities under construction, the complex will be able to accommodate cargo and passenger and cruise vessels. The terminal's capacity when reaching its design capacity will be up to 225 thousand passengers and up to 80 thousand units of Ro-Ro per year.

The project for the construction of an international sea terminal is currently underway. At the moment, the construction of infrastructure, namely berth No. 2, protective structures, auxiliary buildings and structures located on the coastal part of the terminal is underway at the facility under the control of the FSBI “Rostransmodernization”. The construction of the passenger terminal building, radio relay mast, storm water drainage system, transport security equipment systems and development of working documentation for these facilities is being carried out at the expense of FSUE "Rosmorport".
