FSUE "Rosmorport" actively takes part in liquidation of fuel oil spill in Kerch Strait
Vessels of FSUE “Rosmorport”, General Rayevsky and Admiral Serebryakov tugs, and Rabochaya sludge vessel, are taking part in the liquidation of the fuel oil spill, which is the consequence of the incident with the Russian tankers Volgoneft-212 and Volgoneft-239 in the Kerch Strait.
Another tugboat of FSUE “Rosmorport”, Georgy Sedov, and a floating crane engaged by the enterprise are ready to participate in rescue operations.
Besides vessels of FSUE "Rosmorport", vessels of the the FSBI "Marine Rescue Service" (Morspassluzhba) and other rescue units are working now at the site of the accident carrying out diving surveys of parts of sunken vessels, collecting fuel oil from the water surface and oil-containing waste in the coastal strip and installing booms.
According to the FSBI "Marine Rescue Service", 22 tons of oil-containing waste have been collected from the coastline of the Black Sea since the start of work on December 23.
Volunteers from the FSUE “Rosmorport” Azovo-Chernomorsky Basin Branch have also been involved into strengthening the group of forces and means to liquidate the consequences of the oil spill and clean up the coastline.
On December 22 and 23, a group of employees of the Azovo-Chernomorsky Basin Branch from Novorossiysk and from Taman Department, as well as their family members, went to the village of Veselovka, Temryuksky District, Krasnodar Territory, to collect oil products washed ashore as a result of the accident in the Kerch Strait.
More than 100 people took part in the collection of fuel oil. The work was carried out in the area of the Solenoe Lake together with volunteers from Rosmorrechflot industry educational institutions – cadets and employees of the Federal State-Financed Educational Institution of Higher Education “Admiral Ushakov Maritime State University and the Federal State-Financed Educational Institution of Higher Education “Kherson Maritime State Academy”, employees of the FSBI "Administration of Seaports of the Black Sea" and coordinated by specialists of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations.
The FSUE “Rosmorport” Azovo-Chernomorsky Basin Branch provided the volunteers with the necessary equipment, bags for collecting contaminated sand, shovels and personal protective equipment. After the briefing and assignment of tasks, the activists immediately began work on the mechanical collection of polluted sand for its further disposal. Beach cleaning activities in the village of Veselovka did not stop on Sunday, even in adverse weather conditions with rain and wind.
According to the operational headquarters for the elimination of the consequences of the accident in the Kerch Strait, as of December 23, more than 14 thousand tons of contaminated sand were removed.
The fuel oil spill in the Kerch Strait occurred on December 15, 2024 as a result of the fracture of the hulls of two Russian tankers (Volgoneft-212 and Volgoneft-239) caught in a storm. As a result of the incident, pollution of the coastline was recorded in the area from the village of Veselovka in the Temryuk district to the village of Blagoveshchenskaya near Anapa. On behalf of Russian President Vladimir Putin, a working group has been set up to coordinate work to liquidate the consequences of the incident in the Black Sea.
