Andrey Tarasenko, Head of Rosmorrechflot, and Sergey Pylin, General Director of FSUE "Rosmorport", inspected the facilities of the Makhachkala commercial seaport, including newly created land plots, the territory of the Fishing Port and the Makhachkala Vessel Traffic System (VTS).

The heads of Rosmorrechflot and FSUE "Rosmorport" visited the Control Center of the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS) of the A1, A2 marine areas and got acquainted with the activities of employees of the FSUE “Rosmorport” Makhachkala Branch aimed at ensuring navigation safety. GMDSS operator Valentina Chmykhalo reported to the management that the shift was taking place in working mode without incident.

During the visit to the seaport, Andrey Tarasenko and Sergey Pylin held a meeting with stevedores, shipowners, shippers and consignees. It was attended by Rizvan Gazimagomedov, Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Republic of Dagestan, and Jamal Aliyev, General Director of Makhachkala commercial seaport JSC.

Andrey Tarasenko outlined the main directions of development of the Makhachkala commercial seaport, among them — increasing cargo turnover and expanding the range of goods planned for processing at the port. The head of Rosmorrechflot noted that a large-scale reconstruction of the seaport is planned for these purposes, during which it is planned to preserve its cargo base.

Jamal Aliyev stressed that one of the key areas of the seaport's work at the moment is oil transshipment, consistently high volumes of oil and petroleum products have been recorded in recent years, and this year the port also shows high results in cement transshipment.

The head of Rosmorrechflot pointed out the interest on the part of a number of Russian regions in transshipment of goods at the seaport in export and import directions as part of the work of the International North-South Transport Corridor.

During the meeting, special attention was paid to the need to resume ferry services of the Republic of Dagestan with Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan in connection with the need to optimize the logistics of cargo transportation to Asia by road. In order to implement this project, the task is to create an appropriate port infrastructure. A separate topic of discussion was the dredging of the seaport's water area to ensure its continuous uninterrupted operation.

In the context of large-scale plans for further development of the seaport, the meeting also raised the issue of training specialized specialists on the basis of the educational complex of the Caspian Institute of Sea and River Transport named after Admiral General F.M. Apraksin, a branch of the Volga State University of Water Transport.
