General Director of FSUE “Rosmorport” visits Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky VTS and inspects reconstruction of berth No. 9

A delegation from FSUE “Rosmorport” headed by General Director Sergey Pylin made a working visit to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. The enterprise's management visited the facilities of the Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky Vessel Traffic System (VTS), commissioned in February 2024, including the Water Area Technical Surveying Department.

Since the commissioning of the Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky VTS and until the end of September this year, more than 5 thousand navigation operations to assist vessels have been performed.

Sergey Pylin checked the operability of all technical systems and the quality of employees of the VTS. Before the management, the team worked out safety measures in case of detection of unattended objects in the water area.

The new VTS was built at the expense of FSUE “Rosmorport” own funds using modern technologies in order to improve the safety of navigation and the efficiency of navigation on the approaches to the Northern Sea Route. The easternmost VTS in Russia has become the 25th system in the country under the jurisdiction of the enterprise.

In the area of operation of the Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky VTS, guaranteed detection and steady tracking of vessels in the Avacha Bay and on approaches to it at a distance of up to 30 nautical miles is carried out, and reliable radiotelephone communication with vessels and radar control is provided.

Together with Valentin Nitchenko, Acting General Director of Kamchatskoye Morskoye Parokhodstvo LLC, representatives of the Federal State Institution “Rostransmodernizatsiya” and the contractor Rotec JSC, the delegation of FSUE “Rosmorport” inspected berth No. 9 where FSI "Rostransmodernizatsiya” is now performing reconstruction in order to modernize the berth, increase its safety and raise the planned cargo turnover.

During the working visit, the head of the enterprise also held a meeting with employees of the Petropavlovsk Branch, setting key tasks for the team till the year-end. There was also a working meeting with Ivan Bunin, Captain of the seaport of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. The parties discussed issues of pilotage assistance – the Petropavlovsk Branch of the enterprise is the only organization that provides such services to shipowners in the region. The issues of implementing Compulsory Regulations in the seaport of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, dredging in the port's waters and on the approach canals were also discussed at the meeting.

The seaport of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky is one of the largest ones in the Pacific basin. All types of cargo are managed at the seaport. The total capacity of the port's cargo terminals is 2,060.6 thousand tons per year, and of passenger terminals – 16 thousand passengers per year. Navigation in the seaport is carried out in difficult hydrometeorological conditions with thick fogs in spring and summer and strong gale-force winds in autumn and winter.
