More than 240 cadets show a high level of training during navigation practice at the Mir STV in 2024

The navigation practice for the last shift of cadets was completed on the Mir sailing training vessel of FSUE “Rosmorport”.

In 2024, two shifts of students successfully practiced on board the sailboat – 241 cadets (193 cadets of the Admiral Makarov State University of Maritime and Inland Shipping, 24 cadets of the College of the SUMIS and 24 cadets of the branch of the Voronin Arctic Maritime Institute). The total duration of the practice, which started on May 7, was 128 days: the first period – 65 days, the second – 63 days.

The cadets practiced their theoretical knowledge: they studied the structure of the vessel and the basics of watchkeeping, worked on deck and in the engine room, participated in the preparation and installation of sails, rigging, which is an integral part of the curriculum for high-quality training of boatmasters, marine engineers and electromechanics.

During the practice period, the fastest frigate on the planet has traveled more than 9,000 nautical miles, opened its board to familiarize guests with the lifestyle of sailors at the Sails of the World Maritime Festival, held on the territory of the Kaliningrad Sea Fishing Port in June and August, and also participated in the welcoming of the BRICS transport ministers within the framework of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.

On September 12, a solemn event dedicated to the completion of navigation practice in navigation 2024 took place on the territory of the Admiral Makarov State University of Maritime and Inland Shipping. The event was attended by Alexander Strelnikov, Director of the North-Western Basin Branch, and Nadezhda Kalashnik, Deputy Director for Economics and Finances of the North-Western Basin Branch. The branch management congratulated the cadets on the end of the navigation season and the beginning of the new academic year, giving thanks to the especially distinguished cadets.

Following the results of the navigation practice, the cadets received a positive assessment from the vessel's crew management.  Practice supervisors noted the coherence of students' actions in voyages, as well as the ability to make timely correct decisions depending on the navigational situation and weather conditions. The cadets have mastered the necessary skills that will allow them to become real sailors, and also strengthened the team spirit by learning how to work together to achieve their goals and objectives.
