Nikolay Rusanov high-performance dredger, built to work at VCSSC, joins the fleet of FSUE “Rosmorport”

The group of the dredging fleet of FSUE “Rosmorport” was joined by the Nikolay Rusanov high-performance non-self-propelled cutter-dredger of the FPDG3 project. In the nearest future the vessel will start working in the marine part of the Volga-Caspian Sea Shipping Canal (VCSSC).

Nikolay Rusanov is the lead vessel of a series of three dredgers, which are being built by Stroyliderplys, LLC by the order of FSUE “Rosmorport”. The vessel will perform dredging operations at the VCSSС in the waters of the seaports of Olya and Astrakhan and on approaches to them to ensure navigation safety.

The dredgers of this project are characterized by high productivity: for the first time a pump manufactured by Tsimlyansky Marine Mechanical Plant, JSC with an engine power of 1,820 kW and the possibility of using a pulp pipeline with a diameter of up to 800 mm was used on vessels.

The lead dredger is named in honor of Nikolay Vasilyevich Rusanov, who was the Head of the Maritime Administration of the port of Astrakhan in 1994-2000 inclusive. Nikolay Vasilyevich was one of the initiators of the program for the revival of the Russian merchant fleet in the Caspian Sea and made an invaluable personal contribution to the development of the Astrakhan water transport hub.

The laying of the keel of the Nikolay Rusanov dredger took place in September 2022 at the production site of Shipbuilding plant “Lotos”, JSC in the Astrakhan region. The solemn ceremony of launching the dredger was held in October 2023. Upon completion of construction, the vessel successfully passed mooring and sea trials, confirming the high technical characteristics provided for by the project.

Currently, FSUE “Rosmorport” is implementing an unprecedented scale project for the development of VCSSC within the framework of ensuring the operation of the International North-South Transport Corridor. Dredging is carried out in the circumstances of a significant decrease in the level of the Caspian Sea, which amounted to almost 1.5 m over the period 2006-2024.

In 2023, in accordance with the instructions of Russian President Vladimir Putin, the enterprise ensured a canal draught of 4.5 m with the preservation of certain sections of one-way traffic.
