Cadets on the Khersones sailing ship of the FSUE “Rosmorport” laid wreaths at the place of the Armenia vessel wreck

Cadets of the Institute of Water Transport named after G.Y. Sedov undergoing training practice aboard the Khersones sailing ship of FSUE “Rosmorport” laid flowers and wreaths on the water at the place of the Armenia vessel wreck in the autumn of 1941. The action was held as part of the historical and patriotic yacht campaign "Sails of memory of the Black Sea - 2020".

The campaign was solemnly started on August 11, 2020 with a midday gun shot on the Konstantinovsky battery of Sevastopol. Two Sevastopol yachts "Lady Rose" and "Dream", as well as the yacht "Success" of the Ushakov State Maritime University from Novorossiysk, which follow the route "Sevastopol – Feodosia – Kerch – Sevastopol", take part in this action.

The yachtsmen visit memorial places and lay flowers at memorials and monuments at the call points. This memorial action is organized by the Sevastopol branch of All-Russian "Young Army" National Military Patriotic Social Movement Association and the regional branch of Russian Army, Air Force and Navy Volunteer Society in Sevastopol with the support of Sevastopol and Crimean sailing federations.

History:

On November 7, 1941, on the crossbar south of the Yalta seaport, during evacuation, as a result of the fascist bombing, the Armenia sanitary transport vessel was destroyed with more than 6 thousand people on its board killed.

Every year FSUE “Rosmorport” organizes training practice on three sailing ships. At the moment, there are 315 cadets on board of the Mir, Nadezhda, and Khersones sailboats.
