“Kaliningrad, Most Western Russian Gateway to EU” workshop

From 25th till 28th of May, 2010 within the limits of Port-Net international project final workshop named “Kaliningrad, Most Western Russian Gateway to EU” took place in Kaliningrad. The workshop was organized on the basis of the FSUE “Rosmorport” Kaliningrad branch with participation and support of the Government of Kaliningrad Region, the Government of Hamburg and Uniconsult Company from Hamburg. Representatives of German, Malta, Polish, Lithuanian, Latvian and Estonian ports took part in the event. Russian part was represented by the FSUE “Rosmorport” Kaliningrad branch, FSI “Kaliningrad Maritime Port Administration”, “Kaliningrad Sea Commercial Port” JSC, representatives of the Government of Kaliningrad Region, “Maritime Bank” OAO, FSE “Volga-Baltic State Basin Administration of Waterways and Navigation”, Baltic State Academy of Fishing Fleet.
Development prospects of Kaliningrad Region as special economic area and touristic center of the northwest region of Russia were discussed during the workshop. Foreign participants were provided with detailed information on transport complex of the region, as well as on current status and development prospects of the seaport of Kaliningrad, role of FSUE “Rosmorport” in state management of the seaports of Russia.
Reports of foreign ports representatives concerning organization of passenger and cargo transportation between EU ports and the seaport of Kaliningrad, distribution of cargo traffic in Baltic ports and development trends of port infrastructure were made at the workshop.
An excursion to essential objects of the seaport of Kaliningrad including renovated station of vessel traffic management system, railway ferry complex and Kaliningrad sea shipping channel was organized for foreign guests.
Participants noted high grade of workshop organization an key part FSUE “Rosmorport” plays in the development of Russian ports, and agreed to continue the cooperation between EU and Russian ports.
