FSUE "Rosmorport" signs financial lease agreement on supply of two railway ferries to operate on the Ust-Luga Seaport – Kaliningrad Seaport line

In order to fulfill the instructions of the President of the Russian Federation, FSUE "Rosmorport" signed an agreement with the State Transport Leasing Company, JSC for the financial lease of two railway ferries to ensure transport accessibility of the western exclave of Russia. The new ferries will be built based on the project of the country's first dual-fuel innovative ferries Marshal Rokossovsky and General Chernyakhovsky, taking into account the experience of their operation on the line, and with the maximum possible amount of domestic equipment.

In addition, FSUE "Rosmorport" signed a trilateral agreement with the State Transport Leasing Company, JSC and SSK Zvezda, LLC for the construction of these railway ferries. The project will be funded by the National Welfare Fund (NWF). Both vessels are expected to be commissioned in 2028.

The vessels will be designed to transport Russian standard railway trains with a gauge of 1520 mm, as well as other rolling cargoes, including dangerous goods, up to 40 refrigerated containers. Two dual-fuel main engines on board with a capacity of 6,000 kW each use liquefied natural gas or low-sulfur diesel fuel as fuel. It will reduce greenhouse gas emissions into the environment.

The launch of new ferries will significantly expand the possibilities for transporting goods needed for domestic consumption, which, in turn, will strengthen the economic independence of the region.
