Icebreakers of FSUE “Rosmorport” carry out unique pilotage of a vessel with equipment for the Turkish Akkuyu nuclear power plant under construction

On January 25-29, 2024, the icebreakers Kapitan Kosolapov and Kapitan M. Izmailov of the FSUE “Rosmorport” North-Western Basin Branch participated in a unique operation on piloting the non-self-propelled barge Beluga 2 transporting equipment for the Akkuyu nuclear power plant under construction in Turkey.

With the assistance of the enterprise's icebreakers, a barge heading to the Izhorsky Shipyard berth for loading two horizontal superheater separators (SHS) for the Akkuyu NPP was escorted along the Neva River, and further transportation of the equipment to the Bronka multifunctional marine transshipment complex of the seaport Big Port of Saint Petersburg was provided. The icebreaker Kapitan Kosolapov performed the towing of the facility, while Kapitan Izmailov provided icebreaker support with the auxiliary assistance of the icebreaker Nevskaya Zastava.

Icebreaking assistance of such complexity, carried out in winter in severe weather conditions, is unprecedented. The operation was performed by the enterprise's icebreakers in the shortest possible time at a high level without incident.

SPP is a large-sized heavy-weight equipment manufactured by the Izhora branch of AEM-Technologies, JSC of the Rosatom State Corporation. The equipment is critically important for installation and construction of the Akkuyu NPP, the first nuclear power plant in Turkey, which is being built by the Rosatom State Corporation.
