FSUE “Rosmorport” has successfully completed a pilot project for the moving of the Sochi VTS to Russian software

FSUE “Rosmorport” has completed work on equipping the Sochi Vessel Traffic System with domestic software.

On the basis of the results of the extraordinary examination of the Sochi VTS FSUE "Morsvyazsputnik" has drawn up an act on compliance of the coastal facility with all the requirements of the Ministry of Transport of Russia.

The moving of Sochi VTS from foreign to domestic software is a pilot project of the Industrial Competence Center (ICC) “Sea and River Transport”, chaired by Sergey Pylin, General Director of FSUE “Rosmorport”. The software was developed by SITRONICS, JSC.

“The project in Sochi is interesting and important because there is heavy vessel traffic in the water area of the port. It is necessary to test the VTS on domestic software in an area with heavy traffic in order to see how the system copes with signal registration, data display, and check the usability in practice. In order to ensure the technological independence of our country and protect its national security, after the Sochi seaport it is planned to replace foreign software on all vessels of the enterprise,” said Sergey Pylin.

The need of moving to Russian software arose in 2022, when most software and equipment manufacturers from unfriendly countries closed their representative offices in the Russian Federation and stopped supporting their software and equipment.

The VTS software and hardware complex refers to significant objects of critical information infrastructure. In order to ensure stable operation and functioning of the IT infrastructure under the sanctions restrictions of FSUE “Rosmorport”, as a backbone enterprise ensuring the safety of navigation in the water areas of Russian seaports, had to look for alternative products and solutions to replace foreign software not included in the register and used for the system of processing, display and registration of information generated by VTS.

For reference:

The Industrial Competence Center "Sea and River Transport" for the replacement of foreign industry digital products and solutions, including software and hardware complexes, has been operating since mid-2022 and operates within the framework of the industry committee “Transport”. The members of the ICC are the largest enterprises from among sea carriers, ports, enterprises ensuring the safety of navigation. At present, two projects of industrial software substitution are being implemented within the framework of the ICC work: creation and replication of the domestic hardware and software complex VTS, as well as development of the information system of pilotage activity support.
