Sailing practice of 2023 on FSUE “Rosmorport” training vessels completed

Sailing practice of 2023 has ended on all training vessels of FSUE “Rosmorport”. All in all, 1,570 cadets have successfully undergone the practice this year.

On the Nadezhda sailing training vessel, the practice was divided into five batches and lasted from February to December. Under the guidance of 18 mentors, 517 cadets of various specialties from Maritime State University named after admiral G.I. Nevelskoy and its branches, as well as Siberian State University of Water Transport practiced their sea skills. During this time, the frigate spent 155 days at sea, making 10 voyages, and covered over 15,228 nautical miles.

The Nadezhda sailboat sailed into the Sea of Okhotsk and the East China Sea, La Perouse Strait, Tatar and Korean Straits, moving mainly along the coasts of Primorye and Khabarovsk Territories, Sakhalin Island with calls at the seaports of Vladivostok and Vostochny. During the training voyages the cadets learned to determine the vessel's location by navigational landmarks, made astronomical observations.

During the practice, traditional Trainees Days were held, as well as wreath-lowering ceremonies in La Perouse Strait and near Tsushima Island, commemorative events, amateur art concerts and sports competitions. The Nadezhda sailboat took part in the naval parade for the Navy Day, the celebration of Youth Day, and was involved in the Parade of Sails during the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok.

The voyage of cadets in August to the sea terminal Poronaysk of the seaport of Korsakov which lasted a week and was accompanied by strong northeast winds was a memorable event of the navigation season. The return trip took only 3 days – the crew and cadets sailed almost 220 nautical miles per day. Future sailors were impressed by the sightings of a large number of seals in Terpeniya Bay and near Tyuleniy Island in June and July, and in August one could observe whales and killer whales from aboard the sailing vessel.

The Professor Khlyustin training and production vessel took this year 331 cadets of Maritime State University named after admiral G.I. Nevelskoy - future vessel drivers, radio operators, mechanics and electricians, who underwent practical training under the guidance of 13 mentors from January to December. This year, the vessel did not put out to sea.

Earlier, the navigation practice of 2023 was completed on two other sailing training vessels of FSUE “Rosmorport”: Mir sailboat and Khersones sailboat.
