Navigation practice of 2023 successfully completed on the Mir sailboat

Navigation practice of the last shift of cadets this year has come to an end on the Mir sailing training vessel of FSUE “Rosmorport”.

This year, three shifts of students – 317 cadets of the Admiral Makarov State University of Maritime and Inland Shipping (SUMIS) and its branch, the Voronin Arctic Maritime Institute (AMI), the College of SUMIS and the Volga State University of Water Transport - successfully practiced on board the sailing vessel. In total, the practice lasted 6.5 months. During this time, the Mir sailboat has covered more than 12,880 nautical miles.

The cadets practiced theoretical knowledge they had got: they studied the structure of the vessel, the basics of watchkeeping, worked on the deck and in the engine room, were involved in preparing and installing of sails, rigging activities.

The last shift of the year, the third one, during which 110 cadets of the Admiral Makarov SUMIS and the Voronin AMI were trained, lasted for two months: from September 7 to November 8.

At the end of the practice, the cadets received a positive assessment from the vessel's crew management, who marked students’ coordinated work on voyages, as well as their ability to make the necessary decisions in time considering the navigation situation and weather conditions – the skills necessary for future sailors.
