In this regard, FSUE “Rosmorport” has taken measures to ensure the transport accessibility of the western exclave: during the year, two automobile and railway ferries and two ro-ro vessels were provided to the “Ust–Luga Seaport - Kaliningrad Seaport” ferry line. Currently, FSUE “Rosmorport" operates 5 vessels on the line. In total, 24 vessels runs in the Kaliningrad sector.

According to Vasily Strugov, these measures have helped to ease tensions, but Kaliningrad’s cargo needs still exceed the available capacity.

For reference:

FSUE “Rosmorport” takes an active part in ensuring the stable operation of the sea line connecting the Kaliningrad seaport with the seaports of the Leningrad Region and St. Petersburg. Today, sea transportation in the direction of the Kaliningrad region is of priority importance due to restrictions on the overland transit of a number of goods to the region. In order to ensure the transport accessibility of the Kaliningrad Region in the conditions of external sanctions, the Government of the Russian Federation Decree provides the possibility of sea transportation at preferential rates.
