Team of FSUE “Rosmorport” takes part in a sailing regatta on the Day of Workers of the Maritime and River Fleet

The FSUE “Rosmorport” team traditionally took part in the corporate sailing regatta of Rosmorrechflot, dedicated to the professional holiday – the Day of Workers of the Maritime and River Fleet. The competitions were held on July 2 in the Moscow Region in the water area of the Khimki water reservoir at the location of the Royal Yacht Club in accordance with regulations and racing rules of the All-Russian Sailing Federation.

The competitions are aimed at popularization and development of sailing in Russia, as well as promotion of active and a healthy lifestyle. In 2023, a record number of teams took part in the regatta – 12. Among them are the crews of the Ministry of Transport of Russia, Rosmorrechflot, FSUE “Rosmorport”, FSUE “Morsviazsputnik”, FSBI “Morspassluzhba”, the Russian Classification Society, the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping, FSBI “Kanal imeni Moskvy”, the Russian University of Transport, Admiral Ushakov Maritime State University, Admiral Makarov State University of Maritime and Inland Shipping and a team of universities of water transport of Russia.

The teams competed on high-speed sailing yachts of the J70 class, capable of reaching speeds of up to 20 knots (36 km/h). Each vessel had 4-5 racers and a skipper.

The ceremonial start of the beautiful, spectacular sailing regatta was given by Zakhary Dzhioev, Head of Rosmorrechflot, who congratulated his colleagues on their professional holiday, and noted the importance and growing popularity of sports competitions. Wishing everyone good luck and good mood, Zakhary Dzhioev reminded that it was not the winning, but the participation and corporate spirit that counted any corporate regatta.

Employees of the Maritime and River Fleet came to the competition with their families. While adults were steering the sailboats, children were rooting for their favorite team and spending time with animators. The team of the Russian Classification Society took the first place in the competition.

For reference:

The Rosmorrechflot corporate regatta was held for the first time at the Khimki water reservoir in 2016. Since then, competitions have been held annually gathering water transport workers.

Success in yacht racing largely depends on the teamwork and experience in managing the vessel. Weather conditions also count. Any wind for such yachts, even squally, is quite acceptable, while calm air can be a serious hindrance.
