FSUE “Rosmorport” successfully finished icebreaker assistance in the Azov sea and Caspian sea

In connection with improved ice conditions, FSUE “Rosmorport” has completed icebreaker assistance in the freezing seaports of the Azov sea and Caspian sea.

The enterprise icebreakers Kapitan Chudinov, Kapitan Demidov, Kapitan Moshkin, Kapitan Krutov, Fanagoria icebreaking tug and Georgy Sedov icebreaking tug operated in the Azov basin during the completed ice navigation season, while icebreakers Kapitan Bukaev, Kapitan Chechkin and Kapitan Metsayk provided icebreaker assistance in the Caspian basin. The vessels went on duty to provide icebreaker assistance in the period from 6 to 8 December 2022.

According to operational data, more than 4.2 thousand vessels in total were guided to the seaports of Rostov-on-Don, Azov, Taganrog, Eisk, Olya, and Astrakhan during the icebreaker assistance period in 2022-2023.

The finished winter navigation was one of the most difficult in the Caspian basin in recent years due to the fact that the low temperature conditions provoked intense ice formation. The heaviest sections were 140 km and 170 km of the Volga-Caspian Seaway Canal due to the layering and hummocking of ice, which led to the all-out workload of the icebreakers of the Astrakhan branch.

Today, icebreakers of FSUE “Rosmorport” continue to provide icebreaker assistance for ships traveling to Russian seaports in the Gulf of Finland, the Baltic Sea, the White Sea and the Sea of Okhotsk.

FSUE “Rosmorport” uses 33 icebreakers and ice-class icebreaking tugs to ensure icebreaker assistance.

The icebreaking group of FSUE “Rosmorport” is the largest icebreaking group in the world.
