The bottom of the Chukchi and East Siberian seas surveyed from the Magadan icebreaker of FSUE “Rosmorport”

The Magadan icebreaker of FSUE “Rosmorport” provided hydrographic survey services in the water area of the Northern Sea Route during the inter-navigation period. The enterprise provided the icebreaker to the customer to perform complex marine engineering surveys using combined methods of surveying the bottom relief of the Chukchi Sea and the East Siberian Sea with a multi-beam echo sounder.

The studies started in August 2022 and lasted for three months in the ice-free period. During this time, specialists scanned 623 sq. km of the seabed. The work was carried out at a depth of 40-60 m from the icebreaker of FSUE “Rosmorport”. The research data will be used to ensure safe navigation in the waters of the Northern Sea Route.

On the way back, the Magadan icebreaker provided the pilotage of the Arkady Chernyshev motor ship to the seaport of Anadyr with socially significant cargo at the request of the Chukotka Autonomous District and performed emergency towing of the Yuri Tarapurov motor ship off the coast of Kamchatka. On December 20, the icebreaker returned to the seaport of Vladivostok. It will have a short pause and prepare to enter the seaport of Vanino starting from January 15, 2023 to carry out its statutory activities of providing icebreaking pilotage.
