Khersones sailing boat takes part in the wreath-laying ceremony at the place of the Armenia hospital vessel wreck

At the youth historical patriotic yachting cruise “Black Sea Memory Sails”, the Khersones training sailing boat took part in a solemn ceremony dedicated to the memory of the crew members and passengers of the Armenia hospital vessel that wrecked during World War II.

On August 19, 2022, the crew of the Khersones and the cadets undergoing navigation practice on the sailboat, together with the participants of the “Black Sea Memory Sails” cruise, honored the memory of those who died as a result of the wrecking of the vessel at anchorage of the Artek International Child Center.

A mourning ceremony was held on the sailboat, which ended with a minute's silence in memory of the fallen. A wreath and flowers were set afloat from the vessel.

On November 7, 1941, the Armenia passenger-cargo vessel was sunk by the German aircraft 18 miles off the coast of Crimea. By various estimates, from 4,500 to 10,000 people died. In 2020, a Russian expedition discovered the place where the vessel was sunk.

The historical patriotic yacht cruise “Black Sea Memory Sails” started from the Grafskaya pier of Sevastopol on August 8, 2022 and lasted about two weeks, during which the participants of the campaign made a voyage from Sevastopol to Novorossiysk and back. In total, 335 people took part in the event on 12 vessels, including the Khersones training sailing boat.
