Two sea lines provide steady transport communication with the Kaliningrad Region considering growing cargo traffic

Two sea lines provide steady transport communication between the Kaliningrad Region and the rest of Russia in the situation of growing cargo traffic. Three automobile and railway ferries - Ambal, Baltiysk and Marshal Rokossovsky - and a ro–ro vessel URSA MAJOR operate at the Ust-Luga — Baltiysk line under the control of FSUE “Rosmorport”.

The Kholmogory general purpose bulk carrier of Northern Shipping Company JSC has been operating at the St. Petersburg —Kaliningrad line since June 28. If the need is confirmed, an additional cargo vessel will be set on the line by the end of July.

Today there are vacant places for the transportation of containers and general cargo on the URSA MAJOR multifunctional vessel.

Since July 4, in order to increase the loading of the URSA MAJOR vessel, FSUE “Rosmorport” has been providing a 40 % discount to the cost of sea freight when transporting more than 20 empty containers (TEU or FEU) per trip by one client.

For the transportation of goods by ferry, an application should be filed in advance for a space reservation in August – September 2022. This September the General Chernyakhovsky, another automobile and railway ferry of FSUE “Rosmorport”, is expected to enter the line, the sea trials have already been completed.

There is also an option of redirecting cargo from railway and automobile transport to the Bronka terminal or the seaport of Ust-Luga on the vessels of Northern Shipping Company JSC and Udalenniy Morskoy Terminal LLC, which operate at the St. Petersburg — Kaliningrad line.

The situation is under constant control of the Ministry of Transport of Russia and the local government. The Operation Headquarters, including representatives of the government of the Kaliningrad Region, federal authorities, and the business community, is working actively.

The operators of sea terminals in the Kaliningrad Region and Leningrad Region are ready to redirect cargo flows and handle additional cargo volumes.
