A postage stamp with the image of the sailing ship Mir has been issued

The stamp dedicated to the sailing training vessel Mir of FSUE "Rosmorport" went into postal circulation on July 1, on the eve of the Day of the marine and river fleet workers.

In addition to the stamp, envelopes of the first day and promotional souvenir sets of postal products with the image of the vessel, its brief history and main characteristics were issued. Special stamps were also produced for postage stamps for the central post offices of Moscow, St. Petersburg and Kaliningrad.

The sailing training vessel Mir is the world record holder for speed under sail among large sailboats: the officially registered maximum speed is 21 knots (38.9 km/h). The frigate was built in 1987 in Poland at the Gdansk shipyard, the same year it was sent to the home port of Leningrad. The length of the vessel (with bowsprit) is 108.6 m; displacement — 2,984 tons; total sail area — 2,771 sq. m; permanent crew — about 50 people.

Cadets of higher maritime educational institutions of the country annually undergo sailing practice on the sailboat. The sailing training vessel Mir participates in international festivals, solemn events and regattas, in which it usually takes prizes. The frigate was awarded the official status of the "Envoy of St. Petersburg", representing Russia abroad at the highest official level.
