Moskva icebreaker successfully completes work on providing ice navigation in the seaport of Magadan
Regarding the improvement of ice conditions, the icebreaking assistance period for 2021-2022 in the seaport of Magadan, announced from December 2021, has been completed. In the past season, the Moskva icebreaker of FSUE “Rosmorport” provided icebreaking assistance in the water area of the seaport of Magadan and on the approaches to it.
During the ice navigation period, the Moskva icebreaker escorted 167 vessels, which carried nearly 600 thousand tons of cargo, to/from the seaport.
In accordance with the schedule set out in the Plan of Icebreaker Deployment in Freezing Ports, the icebreaker arrived in the seaport on December 24, 2021, and on December 27 it escorted the first vessel named the Kapitan Yermakov. On 6 May, with the end of the icebreaking period, the icebreaker headed for the home port of Vladivostok.
The Moskva icebreaker has worked in the seaport of Magadan for 133 days. The maximum length of its icebreaking assistance for vessels to the seaport of Magadan reached 225 nautical miles, the duration was almost 28 hours, the number of vessels in the caravan was up to four units.
The modern icebreaker Moskva has more powerful engines and a wide hull compared to the Magadan icebreaker, which provided winter navigation in the seaport in previous years. Thus, the Moskva icebreaker has shown great efficiency in the existing ice conditions.
