FSUE "Rosmorport" icebreakers took part in the Icebreaker Festival in St. Petersburg

FSUE "Rosmorport" Icebreakers traditionally took part in a unique event that has become the hallmark of St. Petersburg - Icebreaker Festival. The festival was held on May 1-2, 2022 for the ninth time as part of the celebrations for the opening of the tourist season in the Northern capital. This year the event is dedicated to the celebration of the 350th anniversary of the birth of Emperor Peter I, the founder of the Russian fleet. This is a grand event that takes place nowhere else in the world.

The icebreakers Kapitan Nikolaev, Mudyug and Ivan Kruzenshtern of the FSUE “Rosmorport” North-Western Basin Branch moored on April 30 at the Lieutenant Schmidt embankment in St. Petersburg and welcomed the first visitors of the festival on the morning of May 1.

The guests were welcomed by crew members, as well as cadets of the St. Petersburg State Marine Technical University. Visitors were able to board each of the three icebreakers and get acquainted with the unique engineering structures of the vessels and the way of life of sailors.

The festival culminated in the traditional waltz of tugs. A few tugs circled synchronously to the tunes of the famous waltzes, then diverging, then coming together again, releasing powerful water fountains.

For reference:

The festival with the participation of the FSUE “Rosmorport” icebreakers has been held since 2014 and is popular not only among the residents of St. Petersburg – people from other cities also come to see the maritime workers. The main goal of the event is to show the status of Russia as a great sea power, and St. Petersburg, in turn, as its sea capital.
