According to the results of 2021, the volume of transshipment of cargo in seaports has increased by 1.7 % compared to 2020 - up to 835.2 million tons. The growth was mainly due to dry cargo.

It is planned that with the implementation of measures of the List of the largest projects in the field of water transport, formed by the Ministry of Transport of Russia, the capacity of seaports will reach 1,594 million tons in 2035.

The main development areas in the Far Eastern basin will be coal transshipment terminals in the seaports of Vladivostok (Sukhodol Bay and Cape Otkryty) and Vanino, an LNG terminal in Bechevinskaya Bay of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky seaport, port infrastructure of Korsakov seaport for general and containerized cargo transshipment and creation of a multifunctional cargo area of Poronaysk seaport for transshipment of coal, LNG and oil.

In addition, measures are planned to develop port facilities for the transshipment of LNG, mineral fertilizers and coal in the seaport of Murmansk and a methanol terminal in the seaport of Naryan-Mar.
