Cargo turnover in Russian seaports continues to grow

The cargo turnover of the seaports of Russia in January-September 2021 increased by 1.7% compared to the same period last year, to 621.55 million tons. At the same time, the transshipment of liquid cargo decreased by 1.3%, to 311.67 million tons, mainly due to a drop in the transshipment of oil (by 3.6%) and liquefied gas (by 2%). Dry cargo turnover increased by 4.9% compared to the results of the first nine months of 2020, to 309.88 million tons.

In January-September 2021, an increase in dry cargo turnover was shown by the seaports of the Baltic (7.9%), Azov-Black Sea (6.6%), Far Eastern (2.8%) and Arctic (2%) basins.

Against the background of a general decrease in the volume of liquid cargo in certain seaports, growth was recorded: Taman - 12.3%, Vysotsk - 8.4%, Vostochny - 2.1% Rostov-on-Don - 16.4%, Nakhodka - 8.3% %, Temryuk - 19.3%, Big Port of St. Petersburg - 2.4% and Astrakhan - 56.9%

The largest increase among dry cargo was shown by the transshipment of coal and coke - by 11.9%, containerized cargo - by 6.1% and sugar - by 9.4 times. Freight turnover of general cargo increased by 5.6% due to an increase in the transshipment of ferrous metals (+ 6.5%), refrigerated cargo (+ 29.7%, including fish and fish products - by 44.9%), packaged cargo (+ 4.1%) and other general cargo (+ 2.8%). Transshipment of rolling cargo (Ro-Ro units) increased by 26.8%.

There were transshipped 493.73 million tons of export cargo (+ 2.8%), import cargo - 29.49 million tons (+ 9.8%), transit cargo - 46.69 million tons (+ 0.8%), coastal cargo – 51.64 million tons (-10.7%).

The company's revenue in terms of harbor dues for the period of January-September of this year increased by 1%, to 14.953 billion rubles, while the aggregate volume indicators of serviced vessels decreased by 2%, to 1.330 billion GT, including due to a decrease in vessel entries in foreign navigation by 0.6%, to 1.075 billion GT and coastwise shipping - by 7.5%, to 254.83 million GT.

The decrease in the volume indicators of the serviced vessels is mainly due to the decrease in the volumes of transshipment of oil and oil products in the seaports of Ust-Luga, Novorossiysk, Kavkaz; LNG at the Prigorodnoye seaport; coal and coke in the seaports of Vysotsk and Vostochny; grain in the seaports of Kavkaz (including vessels passing through the KYC), Rostov-on-Don, Azov; rolling cargo in the seaports of Kavkaz, Kerch, Vanino, Kholmsk; a reduction in the number of dry cargo vessels sailing from inland waterways and transiting the seaports of Rostov, Azov, Astrakhan, Olya, as well as vessels calling at the seaports of Nakhodka, Vostochny, Vladivostok and Kaliningrad with the purpose of bunkering.

At the same time, the increase in revenues was due to an increase in the volume of dry cargo transshipment in the seaports of Ust-Luga, Big Port of St. Petersburg, Taman, Vanino, Azov, Arkhangelsk, Magadan, Taganrog, liquid cargo in the seaports of Murmansk, Big Port of St. Petersburg, Taman, rolling cargo in the seaports of Big Port of St. Petersburg and Novorossiysk, containerized cargo in the seaport of Novorossiysk; indexation of the rates of unregulated harbor dues (pilotage, environmental dues and transport safety in the water area of seaports dues) and an increase in the market share for the provision of pilotage services on the Kerch-Yenikalsky Canal and in the seaports of Vladivostok, Ust-Luga and Murmansk.

The number of pilotage operations performed by FSUE “Rosmorport” pilots in 9 months of 2021 increased by 3% compared to the same period in 2020 - up to 132.9 thousand operations.
